About the Beginner Meetings...

To make sure that everyone is able to feel comfortable with their mistakes and encourage self-improvement, please take a look at the following guidelines for the BEGINNER meetings:

1. These meetings are not classes; we provide you with the chance to practice. However, we will be happy to give you recommendations for educational resources if you need help getting started.

2. Everything is said first in Spanish, then in English. Each meeting consists of three parts:

Presentaciones personales/autopresentaciones, el tema, and la discusión. Each person introduces themself, then the meeting topic is addressed, followed by a discussion or activity.

3. The article and discussion questions are posted on MeetUp.com/spanish-251 in advance to give you the opportunity to prepare. Your contributions to the meeting should match your abilities: Practice what you know, not what Google Translate knows!

4. You might consider preparing a simple script and practice speaking it aloud, or making a list of keywords and vocabulary to help you during the meeting. Contact Addie if you need help ahead of the meeting.

5. Discussion regarding word choice and grammar are always encouraged, but please allow the meeting coordinator to determine when to correct a speaker. The goal is to be understood, not perfect.
