Conduct

Behavior

Keep it cool or you will be left out in the cold.

Language

Slurs and excessive cursing are not cool.

Presentation

Be clothed, don't smell bad, and grab a mint.

Interaction

We do not discriminate 'round these parts.  Be cool.

Activity

Membership will be revoked due to lack of attendance.

The Real World

Nice at meetings but a jerk in the real world?  You're out.

Meetings

  • Stick to your fluency level.  Attending a fluency level higher or lower than your own reduces the quality of valuable practice time for the members who are at that level.

    • Your fluency level should change over time.  Addie will let you know if she thinks your ready to move up.

      • If you take a break from practicing (or if you are really stressed out), your level might go down.  Considering that our community is fluency-focused, Addie will tell you if you need to move levels (see the first bullet point).  But take heart!  Fluency often comes back quickly, after some practice (trust me!).

  • Side conversations are generally discouraged, being a distraction to the speaker and to others at the meeting.  It is better to let the speaker finish, and then present your comments and questions to the group.

    • British English says:  the loo, a lorry.  American English says: the restroom, a truck.  We do not adhere to any specific variation of Spanish, so don't offer corrections - be curious!

    • Discussion meetings:  Do not correct other attendees.  Excessive correction absolutely discourages growth, so please leave the corrections to Addie, unless she opens the floor for comments.  Remember, our goal is not perfection - it is confidence and comprehension.

  • Arrive late, leave early... No big deal!  Please just show up prepared..

  • Attendance: You are not required to attend any particular meeting.  Show up once a month, or once a quarter.  Just remember that attendance keeps your membership active!

  • Cash donations are accepted at the end of the meeting.
