Level Descriptions

If your entire spoken vocabulary is ten words or fewer, you're Foundational. Move to Beginners if you can conjugate irregular verbs in the Present tense.

These meetings are conducted in English.

If you are somewhere between practicing the Past Tenses and learning the Subjunctive, and you can tell me about your week - but it's kinda slow, maybe you're translating from English to Spanish, you're missing some important words, and you can't quite say what you want to say - you're an Intermediate.

These meetings are conducted in Spanish with the Socorro Rule off 3:

Ask for clarification.
Ask for it to be explained differently.
Ask for the English translation.

Imagínate que viajas a España, sales del avión, le pides direcciones a un desconocido, y de repente ustedes dos están sentados en un bar con unas cañas y tapas, platicando en español: eres avanzado. Y probablemente guapo. Las reglas no las hago yo 😁

Los niveles se dividen por un conjunto de criterios: la comprensión auditiva, la claridad del habla, además del ritmo del habla. Así que, si tu fluidez no es... fluida... es importante que empieces con las reuniones Intermedias.

Meeting Descriptions

Recommended Donation: $10 per person, per meeting.

Practice meetings offer meeting content for participants to work on ahead of the meeting. Foundational, Beginner, and Intermediate participants are expected to have read the content and prepared responses to the discussion questions; Advanced participants may occasionally choose to challenge their fluency by not reviewing the meeting content, but are generally expected to also treat the content as a study opportunity.

Special Events are generally all-levels, and are not donation-based.

Let's celebrate your Spanish-language journey! Enjoy the food, activities, dancing, and member recognitions.

Recommended Donation: $5 per person, per meeting.

Conversation meetings are reserved for the Advanced fluency level, as an opportunity for them to practice precise & advanced grammar, vocabulary retention, pacing, pronunciation, and fluidity. There is no set topic, and participants are expected to show up with something to talk about!

Throughout the meeting, we may consult a translation app, pepper in the odd English word, or choose to Hispanify an English word. We also enjoy making up words (and sometimes we make up words that already exist!). We have this language policy as this meeting type is focused on navigating friendly, spontaneous conversation in Spanish.
