Spanish Intermediate Meeting Highlights

Tuesdays are for OKC Spanish meetings!

Our intermediate meeting this month was the perfect group size, and everyone had great questions and contributions to the discussion! We are settling into the bookstore's new Conversation Pit nicely (although I still miss my favorite red chair), and we have been gathering new faces, returning faces, and regular faces at each meeting. Very cool stuff, dude.

I am a bit late posting this meeting's highlights - this post should have been for the Advanced meeting that happened this week (I'll get to posting that one next). Between still learning my new sailboat racing hobby, trying not to completely abandon my French studies, creating and posting all of the content for our monthly topics, thinking of new ideas and trying to schedule requested events, job/soul searching, looking for a new laptop (I use Smart Hours, and desktop computers don't have a battery 💪), and a few personal goings-on, I do have a tendency to de-prioritize the meeting highlights. Decision fatigue and ambition. It is a strange mix 😅 But I love working on OKC Spanish 🥰

¿De qué hablamos?

The monthly topic was jobs and occupations, and this bunch showed up ready to go! We created a nice work-based vocabulary list from the reading, but my favorite part of the evening was the onslaught of "versus" concepts! For a long time, I've wanted to create a "Versus" series because it is one of my favorite exercises to improve my Spanish. The plan right now is to compile a repeating 2-year cycle of monthly topics, which I will be able to revise as needed, and once I have those set I'll have more time to dedicate to creating more workshops and eventually creating the content to teach 6-8 week courses.

¿Qué aprendimos?

This topic really did inspire our Intermediates to lean into learning! Here are some of the things we learned:

• Present Progressive/Continuous: more options than just "estar"

• Contraseña vs. Clave

• Ser vs. Estar

• Imperfect vs. Preterite

• Renunciar a, The Personal A, and Direct Objects

Al fin y al cabo

I loved all of the question we had at this meeting - even (and maybe especially) the ones I couldn't answer with complete certainty. Don't worry - I've got my list, and I will be doing some recon on those questions once I get my "absolutely must-do" list handled!

The 23rd Anniversary party is three months away!

I've been brewing up a bunch of ideas for more resources, looking for special events locations and dates, making sure that those dates and times are good for me and others (that's the hard part!), and trying to remember to eat lunch now and then.

... I'm just sayin' that a $5 donation might remind me to take a lunch break 😆
